Frequently asked questions

How does Kepler Academy train its students?

In addition to classroom training, Kepler Academy provides hands-on training on paid Google Ads campaigns. Search experts from Kepler serve as project leads, curating a customized search program to address your nonprofit's unique goals. Additionally, they teach and lead small teams of 10-15 students through building, launching, tracking, optimizing, and reporting on your campaigns.

What are the entry requirements for Kepler Academy?

To participate in Kepler Academy, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Students must be based in—and working out of—the United States.
  • Students must be able to actively attend sessions between Mondays and Thursdays, 3-5pm ET.
  • If currently enrolled in a university undergraduate program, students must be seniors graduating the following spring.
What are the requirements for my nonprofit to work with Kepler Academy?

Before we accept your organization as a client, you must be approved for a Google Ads Grant for Non-Profits. Approval for these grants can take between one to two months, so we recommend applying as soon as possible. The grant is for $10,000 and renews monthly so long as ads are maintained. Although the grant does not accrue, clients typically don’t spend their entire budget allotments. You can apply for the Nonprofits Grant here. When your nonprofit has an approved Google Grant, please apply for the next cohort of Kepler Academy here.

Kepler Academy works with U.S.-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations who are eligible for the Google Ads grant. Please see here for the Google Ads grant eligibility requirements. Some organizations not eligible for the Google Ads grant include:

  • Governmental entities or organizations
  • Hospitals or health care organizations
  • Schools, academic institutions, or universities

Additionally, Kepler Academy has the right to turn down any organization. We thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please reach out to for any questions.

Why should I participate in Kepler Academy instead of hiring freelance support?

Working with Kepler Academy gives you access to agency knowledge from Kepler, a data-driven digital marketing agency managing Google search programs for multiple Fortune 500 companies. We also are a Google Preferred Marketing Partner, meaning we have access to Google representatives should an issue arise. Finally, by participating in Kepler Academy, you’re helping our mission to provide hands-on training that can help participants from diverse backgrounds prepare for careers in digital marketing.

I want to get pro-bono paid search ads for my nonprofit. Are Kepler Academy services free?

Yes! Every part of Kepler Academy is free for nonprofits, from applying to managing the search campaign. As our program uses Google Ads Grants for Nonprofits, there is no advertising cost.

How long will my Kepler Academy ad campaign remain live?

As long as you’d like! While our program runs eight weeks, after it ends you can keep your search campaigns live indefinitely (depending on your budget) or pause them. We’ll walk you through how this works.

Is there a cost to participate in the program?

No—Kepler Academy is completely free to clients. Clients provide their own budgets by applying for a Google Ads grant, and Kepler Academy teams, overseen by Kepler employees, manage campaigns pro bono.

As a Kepler Academy participant, what kind of industry exposure can I expect?

Kepler Academy includes a speaker program that gives students access to top talent from across the industry. Recent speakers have included leaders from Doordash, Meta, CUNA Mutual, Google, Spark Foundry, Hanes/Champion, and The Power MBA.
